《成为职业木工指南》是 Jim Tolpin 写给想以柜制作为职业的人的指南，由 Popular Woodworking Books（F+W）于 2005 年出版（ISBN 1-55870-753-0）。Tolpin 自 1969 年起从事装饰木工与定制柜制作，入行至今三十余年，本书即出自他这段职业经历。
作者在导言中自述：入行三十余年，从单车库工坊做到双车库，工具始终只有最低限度；前十年只做精细的手工柜体，却”像所有定制家具师一样濒临破产”。痛定思痛，他发现症结不在手艺，而在不懂柜体、方法原始、更不懂经营。
于是他着手补课：研究欧洲进口柜体的五金系统与模块化，重组工坊动线，建立生产流程图，最后补齐商业知识——这些正是本书的内容。全书按”工坊—流程—经营”三部分展开：第一部分讲选址、工坊布置、行内工具、工坊自制夹具与工坊最宝贵资产的保护；第二部分从柜体设计、生成工坊数据、整理与堆垛材料、板材与实木备料、部件组装、涂饰、柜体总装到产品安装，走完整个生产流程；第三部分谈构建业务、市场分析、产品设计与定价、市场推广与业务维持。
书末附结语，以及工具与耗材、延伸阅读、生产流程图三个附录和索引。本书献给 Alysha Waters。
