本书是英国烙画（pyrography，又称烫画、烧画）作者 Simon Easton 继《Woodburning with Style》之后的第二本书。作者在曼彻斯特都会大学攻读三维设计，主修木旋、银器与锡器制作，毕业前其木旋装饰碗入选「onetree」项目；近年的创作重心转向烙画，以「Wood Tattoos」为名推出当代风格的装饰器物，并在英国手工艺论坛担任版主。前言里他说得很直接：第一本书出版后收到世界各地读者的反馈，看到别人照着他的项目练手、然后又长出自己新想法，这让他意识到入门书真正的价值在于「给人一个小推力」。
本书的定位与第一本不同——它是一本纯粹的实作入门书：用分步项目带着新手在动手过程中掌握烙画。第一章把门槛压到最低：认识烙画机（实心笔尖式与热丝式两类）的构造与开关、笔尖的装拆与冷却、各种笔形（通用书写尖、阴影尖、勺形尖、斜刃尖）各自能画出什么痕迹、如何选择与处理木料、如何收尾保护，最后安排了几个极短的基础练习，让人先在废料上把手感和温度控制练出来。作者也提醒，想要更系统的理论可以回头读他的第一本书。
第二章是全书主体，由 14 个项目按难度递进排列：从餐巾环、礼品标签、钥匙扣牌这类小件起步，做到冰箱贴、杯垫、钥匙架、手镯、门牌挂饰，再到需要一定耐心与构图能力的首饰盒、相框、装饰盘、纪念盒、挂钟和纪念相册。每个项目都按「工具与材料清单 → 图案转移 → 烧绘步骤 → 收尾与完成」的顺序展开，配大量实拍照片与短句说明，读者可以照着图直接上手；作者也反复鼓励在所有项目的基础上改造图案，做出属于自己的设计。
第三章收录作品画廊与全套项目图纸：画廊展示作者及合作者的成品，让人看到同一门手艺的风格边界；图案部分则是按项目编号整理的等比线稿，读者可以复印、转移后直接使用，书末还附了几页字体样式供在作品上写字用。全书配有索引，终止页是版权与出版信息。
