《真实木材圣经》（The Real Wood Bible）全名《真实木材圣经：选择与使用 100 种装饰木材的完整图解指南》，由 Quarto 旗下 Firefly Books 于 2005 年出版。作者 Nick Gibbs 在导言中写道：「大多数木工都有一批自己偏爱的木材『调色板』，会为某个特定用途尝试替代木种，或者只是因为偶遇、获赠一块新板材或一张木皮。」制柜师为面板挑选稳定、最好径切的板材，椅匠为腿和扶手选强韧的长纹木、坐面用更富装饰性的软材，雕刻匠偏爱质地均匀的木材以避免撕裂，车工则几乎来者不拒——「如今，值得庆幸的是，可选择的木材非常丰富」，木皮与车坯可通过邮购、目录或互联网轻松购得。

作者心目中「理想的木材」：纹理大体顺直，质地细密坚硬以获得良好漆面（或粗放易抛亮），带少许增添个性的缺陷而不至浪费过多，颜色与花纹独特。全书以木材目录为主体：主要木材（Principal Woods）收录因适应性或商业可得性而受重视的锯材，其中不乏罕见珍贵、「堪称木材场珠宝」的美丽木种；次要木材收录供应有限或商品价值较低的品种；特殊效果则聚焦树瘤、径切射线斑纹等戏剧性视觉效果。

在可持续性一章中，作者提醒：木材也许是最万能的材料——坚固、尺寸齐全、柔韧、美观、相对易用，最重要的是可再生，「但问题是，几十年来人们砍伐森林、挥霍收益，不顾后果」，已使部分树种濒临灭绝。本书版权页自述为「一部使用木材及各类木种的资源书」，编制为便携的螺旋装订形式，便于在车间随时查阅。
