《DK木工分步指南》是 DK 出版的木工入门图册，定位在”从零到能独立做出一件家具”的完整路径上。全书按工具、技法、木材、项目四大板块推进，每个技法都配分解图与尺寸标注，是典型的”看着就能跟着做”的实操书。

作者在引言里给出了这本书的立意：木材自人类文明起就是最根本的材料——提供氧气、食物、温暖、药物与居所，也提供了纸张、家具、乐器与艺术品等文化进步的载体。正因如此，木家具拥有丰富多样的风格传统，数百年前的实物今天仍可在博物馆、古董店与画廊中见到。作者认为，这份传统与工艺传承对现代木工人是可资借鉴的灵感档案。

书中同时坦诚手工技艺与机械的分野：纯手工做家具确实在一定程度上被电动工具与机械取代，但手工工具的重要性怎么强调都不为过。工具可以在数百年里不断精进，木工的基本原理却几乎没有改变。纯靠机器做家具当然可行，但那需要一间大工坊和一个很大的钱包；相反，手艺让你能在有限的空间与预算内做家具，同时享受与木头近距离打交道的乐趣。

全书最扎实的是”技法 · TECHNIQUES”这一章，用近百页把常用接合一次讲透：从对接、企口（固定式与可拆式）、十字搭接、角搭接、燕尾半搭接、横纹槽、燕尾槽、斜接（平接与斜切搭接），一直到完整的榫卯体系——基础榫卯、带台榫、暗带台榫、楔紧贯通榫、可拆榫、错孔挤压榫，再到 T 型夹榫、角夹榫、梳齿接合、贯通燕尾榫，以及商业连接件、胶合夹紧、夹具样板、贴面、涂饰与家具修复。这是全书最值得反复查阅的部分。

九个练习项目从砧板、衣帽架、镜框、洗衣篮、酒架、首饰盒一路做到壁柜与书柜，难度递进，每个项目都建立在前面已讲过的技法之上——这是这本书”分步”二字的真正含义。末尾附术语表与致谢页。
